K-9 YOU HAVE TO BE A HARDCORE FAN
If you are looking for more of the classic Who stories for the eighties tongue and check stories do not look here. This was an attempt to create a childrens show based on the much loved K-9 from Doctor Who and give K-9 own set of adventures. Only the voice of K-9 John Leeson, continues from the true Doctor Who universe.K-9 finds himself regenerated into a new form and having lost his memory (i.e. since it was not produced by the BBC there would be no cross overs with the real Doctor Who show or props or anything else) and has to start over with a new set of companions.
The show was definately aimed at a younger audience. I enjoyed the series for what it was an alternate take on a classic character from Doctor Who, but do not expect classic Doctor Who here.
K-9
This is the story of what became of K-9 after he left Leela and Gallifrey behind. Classic K-9 does make an appearance but regenerates into a newer form. It's a fun Australian series.
Technical info and review
K-9 The Complete Series is distributed by Shout! Factory on four DVD discs. It has 26 episodes in widescreen and 5.1 audio as well as stereo. There are no closed captions, subtitles or alternate audio language. The collection contains a brief "making of" documentary for the series and a staged interview of K-9 by character Jorjie Turner (Philippa Coulthard). The series is designed as children's television drama and is loosely derived from the Dr. Who series.
There is a manufacturing audio error on disk 3 episode "The Custodians" in which the audio tracks are reversed. The default for this episode only is stereo instead of 5.1. The default audio drops completely at 21:49 into the episode. The episode is completely watchable by switching to audio track 2.
The stories are interesting but it takes a few runs through to catch the evolving story arc for the aliens and adventures. Professor Alistair Gryffen (Robert Moloney) is working with a Space-Time Manipulator (STM)...
